Sandara is a Landscape Architect based on Waiheke Island, New Zealand.

History

I’m Sandara Passos, founder of SolSeascapes, an Architect and Urbanist with a post-grad in Landscape Architecture from Melbourne, where I began working in the industry in 2017.
My career has taken root across three countries — from Brazil’s vibrant energy, to Melbourne’s strong ecological lens, deep design culture, and critical eye, to the striking natural beauty of Aotearoa, where I’ve been living and designing since 2020.

Now based on Waiheke Island, I draw inspiration from its magical landscapes and creative community — a place where natural beauty and design appreciation quietly thrive.

My design process is also deeply influenced by traditional techniques like gouache and watercolour, with a soft spot for botanical illustration and old-world craftsmanship. I like design that feels curated but alive — a little natural, a little elegant, but always personal.

Phlosophy and Values

My work is guided by a belief that gardens are not just green space — they’re living expressions of rhythm, place, and presence. I value strong planting palettes, thoughtful materials, and that quiet moment when structure meets softness. Influenced by my time in Melbourne, I’m deeply drawn to native plants — and here in Aotearoa, I believe it’s time we celebrate them. Not just for their resilience, but for their sculptural beauty, their texture, and the way they belong.

Collaboration

SolSeascapes is built on collaboration — with design studios, architects, clients, and builders across Aotearoa and Australia. I continue to work alongside architecture practices and creative teams on projects ranging from coastal homes to large-scale commercial landscapes. Whether leading or integrating into a wider design process, I bring a grounded, adaptable approach to each project — always aiming to shape something that feels thoughtful, site-specific, and alive.
